Organizational Context: Capturing Resilience in a Changing Climate
The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) is a global organization operating under a treaty, which aims to promote strong, inclusive, and sustainable economic development in poor countries. GGGI has been working with the Solomon Islands Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Disaster Management, and Meteorology (MECDM) to carry out the SIAC-SI Project. The project is intended to make the country more resilient to climate change by conducting thorough risk assessments, formulating a National Adaptation Plan (NAP), and improving the mobilization of resources.
The internship program of GGGI provides a one-of-a-kind chance for students and recent alumni to acquire practical skills in a diverse, purpose-driven setting. Our team in Honiara is currently looking for a creative and driven Video Editing Intern to become part of us. In this position, the intern will be responsible for creating powerful visual narratives from the field experiences, community stories, and project milestones. These narratives will then be used for awareness-raising, documenting impact, and giving a voice to the climate change frontliners.
Assignment Overview
The Video Editing Intern will work closely with the SIAC-SI Program Team to support multimedia production and visual storytelling. The intern’s core responsibilities will include:
- Content Creation & Editing: Take raw footage from project activities such as workshops, field missions, community consultations, and interviews and edit it into polished videos for reports, social media, and awareness campaigns.
- Storytelling: Create attractive short-form videos like highlight reels, recap videos, and human-interest stories that not only document but also dramatize community experiences and climate adaptation activities.
- Production Support: Participate in the filming of national, provincial, and community-level events by doing the necessary tasks like setting up the camera, interviewing the participants, and getting extra footage (b-roll).
- Media Management: Create a digital library that is properly structured, organized, and maintained for all the video and photo assets with the correct naming conventions, storage, and backup.
- Digital Engagement: Generate video content customized for social media that is appealing and engaging for local and international audiences on platforms such as Facebook and LinkedIn.
- Brand Compliance: All multimedia outputs are to be compliant with GGGI’s branding and communication guidelines.
- Contextual Awareness: Develop and maintain knowledge of climate change problems and local narratives in Solomon Islands as a way of making visual storytelling more relevant and powerful.
- Regional Support: Do your part in the GGGI Pacific multimedia and communication initiatives as needed.
Eligibility and Qualifications
Eligibility Requirements:
- You must be enrolled in a Bachelor’s final year, Master’s, or Doctorate program or be a graduate who has finished his studies no more than 12 months ago.
- You must pursue an academic career in a subject closely associated with GGGI’s activities.
- You must have a very good knowledge of the English language.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Academic Background: Current enrollment or recent graduation in Media Studies, Film Production, Digital Journalism, Communication, Environmental Studies, or a related field.
- Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated skills in video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro).
- Creativity: A strong sense for visual storytelling and the ability to craft compelling narratives from raw footage.
- Production Skills: Familiarity with camera operation, basic filming techniques, and photography is a strong advantage.
- Digital Savvy: Experience creating engaging content for social media platforms.
- Organizational Skills: Ability to manage media files, editing timelines, and digital assets systematically.
- Language: Excellent communication skills in English. Knowledge of Solomon Islands Pijin is a significant advantage for community engagement.
- Commitment & Interest: Demonstrated commitment to completing the internship duration and a genuine interest in climate issues, environmental communication, and digital storytelling.
- Location & Equipment: Must be based in Honiara, Solomon Islands. Possession of a personal computer is preferred.
Selection Process, Terms & Conditions
Selection Process:
- Applications will be evaluated based on: eligibility, relevance of academic and practical experience, and the candidate’s motivation to contribute to development work.
- Due to the high volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
Terms & Conditions:
- Length: The academic internship can last from 3 to 6 months. It should start before the graduation or within the next 12 months after graduation.
- Compensation: An amount of 500 US dollars is given every month as a stipend (unless the sponsoring institution covers the cost).
- Arrangements: The intern must take care of all expenses for travel, visa, insurance, accommodation, and daily living. GGGI will issue a visa support letter.
- Non-disclosure: Interns are obliged to keep the secret of all unpublished data acquired during the internship.
- Hours of Work: The interns shall work in the office during the regular business hours and shall take time off only if it is approved beforehand.
- Award: A certificate confirming the intern’s successful participation will be issued at the end of the internship.
