Originally established as a child sponsorship initiative, the organization has evolved into a comprehensive development agency addressing systemic challenges affecting children – with particular emphasis on girls’ empowerment – across more than 75 countries worldwide. PLAN implements integrated programs in education, child protection, youth economic empowerment, and humanitarian response, uniquely combining grassroots community engagement with policy-level advocacy to create sustainable change.
As an independent NGO, it funds its operations through individual donations, corporate partnerships, and institutional grants rather than government support. The organization has gained international acclaim for its transformative “Because I Am a Girl” campaign and other innovative programs that have improved millions of young lives, while consistently maintaining exceptional standards of transparency and accountability that have earned it top ratings from independent charity evaluators.
