Organizational Setting & Reporting
The Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea (DOALOS/OLA) offers a unique opportunity for highly motivated individuals to gain professional experience in ocean affairs and international maritime law within a multicultural, intergovernmental organization. Interns will contribute to the division’s work while enhancing their legal knowledge and skills under expert supervision.
Duties & Responsibilities
Interns will assist with a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:
- Conducting legal research on ocean affairs and the law of the sea using diverse resources.
- Reviewing legal documents, treaties, and related materials.
- Drafting and preparing official and legal documents.
- Attending and summarizing meetings, conferences, and hearings.
- Supporting conference and meeting coordination.
- Assisting with website content, presentations, and public outreach.
- Performing additional duties as required.
No prior professional experience is necessary, but relevant academic training is essential.

Qualifications & Skills
Education:
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a law degree program (LLB, JD, LLM, PhD, or equivalent).
- Alternatively, enrolled in/completed an advanced degree in a closely related field relevant to ocean affairs and maritime law.
Eligibility:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
- Enrolled in or completed a graduate program (Master’s, PhD, or equivalent).
- In the final year of a first university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent).
Languages
- Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required.
- French proficiency is desirable.
- Knowledge of another UN official language (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish) is an advantage.

Organizational Setting & Purpose
The UN Resident Coordinator System (RCS) ensures coordinated and effective UN operational activities at the country level. Following the 2018 UN reform, the RCS operates independently from UNDP, strengthening the neutrality and leadership of Resident Coordinators.
In Peru, the Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO) oversees collaboration among 22 UN Agencies, Funds, and Programs, ensuring alignment with national development priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Duties & Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the team leader or designated national officers, the intern will:
- Support coordination of UN activities in Peru, including logistical assistance for meetings, workshops, and events.
- Conduct research and analysis on key development issues, particularly those related to the SDGs and Peru’s national priorities.
- Assist in drafting reports, policy briefs, and communications materials on UN initiatives.
- Maintain databases, filing systems, and other administrative tasks as required.
- Facilitate partnership engagement with government agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders.
- Participate in RCO team meetings and other relevant activities.
No prior professional experience is required, but an academic background in a related field is essential.

- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a bachelor’s degree program (final year).
- Enrolled in or completed a graduate program (Master’s, PhD, or equivalent).
Additional Requirements:
- The field of study should be related to economics, sustainable development, international relations, or a relevant discipline.
- Proof of enrollment or graduation must be submitted (official certification may be required later).
Languages
- Fluency in English (written and spoken) is mandatory.
- Knowledge of French or Spanish (given the duty station) is an asset.
