Human Resources (HR) Internship Opportunity
International Organization for Migration (IOM) – Burundi
Location: Bujumbura, Burundi
Posting Date: July 28, 2025

Position Overview

Under the overall guidance of the Chief of Mission and direct supervision of the Senior Human Resources Assistant, the HR Intern will support daily HR/administrative operations at IOM Burundi. This role offers hands-on experience in HR processes within a multicultural UN environment.


Key Responsibilities

HR & Administrative Support

✔ Maintain and update HR personnel files in compliance with IOM regulations
✔ Assist in preparing payment requests (RFPs) for non-staff personnel
✔ Update the organizational organigram to reflect staffing changes
✔ Draft Letters of Invitation (LoI) and facilitate Burundian visa processing for international personnel
✔ Support UN ID applications for staff and dependents
✔ Prepare certificates of service for departing staff
✔ Provide scanning, photocopying, and clerical support as needed

Learning & Development

✔ Gain exposure to IOM’s HR workflows (Hire-to-Retire) via WAVE Oracle ERP
✔ Assist in tracking staff compliance with mandatory training courses
✔ Optional access to pre-recorded HR training modules (subject to approval)


Learning Outcomes

By the end of the internship, you will have:
✅ Practical knowledge of HR processes in a UN agency
✅ Experience liaising with government authorities on visas/immigration
✅ Skills in organizational design (organigram maintenance)
✅ Familiarity with IOM’s digital tools (Office 365, Oracle ERP)


Qualifications & Requirements

Education

  • Current enrollment in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in:
    • Human Resources
    • Business Administration/Management
    • Related fields
  • OR graduated within the last 12 months (must start internship within 1 year of graduation)

Experience

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365
  • Basic office skills (printing, scanning, etc.)

Languages

  • Fluent in English and French (written & spoken)
  • Knowledge of Spanish (IOM’s third official language) is a plus
