Duties and Responsibilities

This position is situated in New York City within the Office of Investment Management, which manages the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund. The selected candidate will become part of the Data Analytics Team, functioning within the Data Analytics and Business Applications Office. This unit focuses on improving operational efficiency, tackling sophisticated problems, and harnessing data’s power to support evidence-based choices. Through advancing data competency, implementing strong governance protocols, and maintaining high data standards, the team is instrumental in furthering OIM’s objective to operate as an organization guided by data.

The intern will receive direction from the Data Engineers and has the option to work full-time or part-time, either onsite at OIM’s New York facility or through a hybrid model, adaptable to the successful applicant’s preferences.

With appropriate mentorship, the intern will assume these key functions:

  • Aid in data investigation activities and undertakings, encompassing information acquisition and examination, concentrating on industries pertinent to investment approaches. Help merge statistical and descriptive techniques for initiative planning, information assembly, and analysis.
  • Perform investigation and aid in creating endeavors that employ external vendor APIs via Python programming.
  • Recognize and investigate possibilities for partnership with forward-thinking projects inside OIM.
  • Assist the unit with other tasks connected to data as needed.

Qualifications/Special Skills

Candidates must satisfy one of these conditions:

  • Be registered in or have concluded a postgraduate academic program (second university degree or comparable, or advanced degree).
  • Be registered in or have concluded the ultimate academic year of an initial university degree program (minimum baccalaureate degree or equivalent).

Individuals who have graduated as indicated must start the internship within twelve months of graduation. Although prior occupational experience is not obligatory, applicants should have educational preparation or capabilities directly relevant to the internship’s concentration.

Candidates must show competence in common software programs, Python, and SQL, supplemented by a firm grasp of data examination. Acquaintance with Power BI, Power Apps, and database management standards is beneficial. Proficient technical documentation abilities and the capacity to explain specialized ideas to general audiences are crucial.
