Duties and Responsibilities:

The intern will work full-time (Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.) under the direct guidance of the Digital Communications Lead. Key responsibilities span the following areas:

Content Development & Branding

  • Create visual materials that adhere to UN branding standards, such as:
    • Graphics for social media platforms (Twitter/X, Instagram, LinkedIn)
    • Infographics that simplify detailed policy content
    • Email newsletters designed with Mailchimp
    • Banners for events in physical and digital formats
  • Write press releases focused on youth-oriented projects
  • Curate and oversee a unified digital archive by implementing consistent organizational frameworks and comprehensive metadata protocols.

Social Media Management

  • Roll out cross-platform campaigns on Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn
  • Handle daily community interactions (responding to messages, moderating comments)
  • Create tailored content schedules using Hootsuite Enterprise
  • Perform A/B tests on types of content and timing of posts
  • Produce weekly reports on performance metrics (reach, interaction rates, conversions)

Multimedia Production

  • Capture high-profile events through:
    • DSLR photography
    • Video recordings of discussions and one-on-one interviews
  • Edit video content with Adobe Premiere Pro to create:
    • Short clips (60 seconds) for social platforms
    • Brief recap videos (3 minutes)
    • Edited collections of public interviews

Event & Coordination Support

  • Assist with organizing events for the Youth Office, such as:
    • Observances for International Youth Day
    • Orientation for Youth Delegates
    • Meetings for interagency collaboration
  • Record meeting notes using official UN formats
  • Update stakeholder contact records in Salesforce

Qualifications/Special Skills

Academic Requirements:
Candidates should fulfill one of the following conditions:

  • Be in the last year of an undergraduate degree (in communications, international relations, or similar)
  • Have finished a bachelor’s degree within the last two years
  • Be currently enrolled in a postgraduate program (master’s/PhD in a related area)

Technical Competencies:
Required:

  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office (especially creating animations in PowerPoint and designing templates in Word)
  • Proven experience managing social media accounts (submission of a portfolio is welcomed)
  • Working knowledge of digital content scheduling and analytics tools such as Hootsuite, Buffer, or similar platforms is expected.

Preferred:

  • Ability in graphic design using Canva Pro or Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop)
  • Competence in video editing with Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or DaVinci Resolve
  • Background in professional photography with demonstrated ability to process and edit uncompressed image formats.

Professional Assets:

  • Involvement with organizations or movements led by young people
  • An understanding of the United Nations’ institutional architecture and intergovernmental decision-making processes is highly beneficial.
  • Awareness of accessibility best practices for digital materials.
