The Role: Strategic Leadership in Fostering Organizational Alignment
The Senior Communications Officer for Internal Engagement will be appointed to a position of significant influence, situated at the very heart of shaping IFC’s internal culture and dialogue. This individual will be responsible for designing and delivering high-impact, data-driven communications strategies that effectively connect our diverse and dispersed personnel to our overarching mission, substantially strengthen employee engagement, and decisively drive organizational priorities forward.
The selected candidate will operate as a strategic partner and trusted advisor to senior management and colleagues across IFC and the broader World Bank Group. This entails providing expert counsel and crafting powerful, evidence-based narratives that inspire concrete action, foster genuine collaboration, and underpin large-scale transformative change within the institution.

Key responsibilities include:
- Strategic Campaign Leadership: Lead the end-to-end design, meticulous planning, and flawless execution of high-impact, multi-channel internal communications campaigns. This encompasses everything from initial concept development and audience analysis to message creation, multi-platform delivery, and comprehensive post-campaign evaluation. Ensure all campaigns are strategically timed, deeply audience-focused, and seamlessly coordinated across all channels to maximize engagement and powerfully reinforce key institutional messages.
- Comprehensive Communications Planning: Develop and execute sophisticated, holistic communications strategies to support major organizational initiatives and complex change management programs. This includes conducting stakeholder and insights gathering, setting clear and measurable objectives, segmenting audiences with precision, developing resonant key messages, selecting optimal channel mixes, and establishing robust frameworks for impact measurement and continuous improvement.
- Content Excellence and Channel Management: Oversee the creation, curation, and dissemination of high-quality, compelling content across IFC’s primary internal channels, including the IFC intranet homepage, the flagship IFC Updates newsletter, and other digital platforms (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Viva Engage). Ensure all content maintains the highest standards of consistency, clarity, and brand alignment, while resonating effectively with a diverse, global audience.
- Innovation in Storytelling: Champion the adoption of innovative content formats, advanced storytelling techniques, and high-impact visual design to dramatically increase engagement levels and enhance comprehension of complex, technical initiatives.
- Data-Driven Performance Analysis: Direct the systematic collection, rigorous analysis, and insightful reporting of performance metrics for all internal communications activities. Apply these data-driven insights proactively to optimize ongoing strategies, refine tactical execution, and demonstrably enhance the reach and impact of all communications efforts.
- Event and Initiative Support: Contribute expertise to the planning and delivery of key internal engagement initiatives, town halls, and leadership events, ensuring they are strategically designed to reinforce core messages, foster a positive organizational culture, and strengthen staff connection to IFC’s mission and values.
- Leadership and Representation: Serve as a deputy and principal advisor to the Head of Internal Engagement. Represent the team authoritatively in meetings with senior leadership and in critical cross-functional working groups. Provide guidance, mentorship, and constructive feedback to junior communications colleagues, actively fostering a team culture of excellence, creativity, accountability, and continuous professional development.
Selection Criteria
The successful candidate will possess:
- A Master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Political Science, International Development, Business Administration, or a directly related field.
- A minimum of eight (8) years of directly relevant and progressive experience in corporate communications, internal communications, or change communications, preferably within a large, complex, and international organization.
- A demonstrable and proven track record of conceiving, leading, and executing successful, multi-channel internal communications campaigns from end-to-end, with clear, measurable evidence of their impact on employee engagement and the advancement of organizational objectives.
- Exceptional ability to distill complex concepts, corporate strategies, and organizational changes into clear, compelling, accessible, and actionable messages tailored for diverse, multi-cultural audiences.
- Superior writing, editing, and storytelling skills, evidenced by a strong portfolio that demonstrates versatility and excellence across a wide range of formats (e.g., executive messages, intranet articles, video scripts, leadership talking points, newsletters).
- Demonstrated experience in building trusted advisor relationships and providing strategic counsel to senior executives and leadership, managing highly sensitive information with impeccable discretion, tact, and professional integrity.
- Proven leadership initiative and the ability to inspire and guide colleagues through effective mentorship, collaborative problem-solving, and by setting a powerful example of professional excellence.
- High proficiency in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting communications performance data (using tools like Google Analytics, Poppulo, Viva Insights, etc.) and applying those insights strategically to refine approaches and improve outcomes.
- A creative and innovative mindset, coupled with a strong visual sense and familiarity with modern digital and multimedia communications tools and platforms.
- Significant experience working effectively in a large, international, and multi-cultural environment, with a deep sensitivity to cultural nuances and organizational context.
