Duties and Responsibilities
The intern will work full-time, five days per week (9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.), at the United Nations Headquarters in New York under the direct supervision of a designated staff member. Daily tasks will be tailored to the intern’s academic background, skills, and the ongoing priorities of the office. Key responsibilities include:
- Event Coordination: Supporting the planning and execution of high-profile events, conferences, and workshops, including logistical arrangements, participant coordination, and post-event reporting.
- Travel Management: Facilitating travel procedures for meeting participants, processing travel expense reports, and ensuring compliance with UN financial regulations.
- Data Management: Creating, updating, and maintaining detailed spreadsheets to track travel-related activities and operational workflows.
- Communication Support: Drafting and disseminating internal communications, including emails and announcements related to travel, events, and administrative processes.
- Vendor Coordination: Reviewing vendor forms to ensure accurate banking information is uploaded into the UN’s financial systems.
- Research and Analysis: Conducting targeted research on youth-focused programs, operational best practices, and emerging global trends to support data-driven decision-making.
- Knowledge Management: Contributing to the collection, analysis, and dissemination of information to enhance the office’s strategic initiatives.
- Additional Tasks: Undertaking other duties as assigned to support the operational efficiency of the UN Youth Office.

Qualifications/Special Skills
Academic Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
- Either be currently pursuing the final year of an undergraduate program (baccalaureate or equivalent credential) or have recently graduated from one.
- Be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
Experience and Skills
- While no prior professional work experience is required, candidates should demonstrate a strong academic or extracurricular background in fields related to youth engagement, social affairs, international development, public administration, or operations management.
- Candidates must possess demonstrated competency in common office productivity suites, with advanced skills in Microsoft Word for document creation and PowerPoint for presentations being a fundamental requirement.
- Knowledge of youth-focused initiatives or prior involvement in youth-led organizations will be considered a distinct advantage.
- Strong organizational, coordination, and administrative skills are preferred.
Languages
- Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.
- While not mandatory, familiarity with a second official UN language such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish is considered a significant asset.
