Responsibilities

Strategic Communications & Public Engagement

  • Provide expert analysis and advice on strategic communications, reputational risks, crisis management, and information integrity.
  • Develop and implement data-driven communications strategies to amplify UN priorities, engage target audiences, and measure impact.
  • Draft compelling narratives, messaging, and media lines for traditional and digital platforms.
  • Monitor media trends, public narratives, and misinformation threats to inform proactive responses.
  • Coordinate press conferences, briefings, and advocacy events with media and stakeholders.

Crisis Communications & Risk Management

  • Advise senior leadership on crisis communications, reputational risks, and misinformation mitigation.
  • Lead rapid response efforts, including key message development and coordination with global/regional communications teams.
  • Manage real-time monitoring of traditional/social media to detect emerging threats and false narratives.
  • Ensure consistent crisis messaging across UN channels and internal staff communications.

Stakeholder Engagement & Advocacy

  • Build partnerships with media, UN entities, and external partners to advance joint outreach initiatives.
  • Represent the UN in public forums, advocating for organizational priorities.
  • Develop metrics to evaluate media engagement effectiveness and adjust strategies accordingly.

Policy & Capacity Building

  • Create guidance, training, and templates for communications best practices, including crisis scenarios.
  • Promote data privacy and security compliance in all communications activities.

Competencies

  • Professionalism: Expertise in strategic/digital communications, crisis management, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Planning & Organizing: Ability to prioritize, adapt, and deliver under pressure.
  • Communication: Exceptional writing/public speaking skills; adept at tailoring messages for diverse audiences.

Education & Experience

  • Advanced degree (master’s or equivalent) in communications, journalism, international relations, or a related field. A first-level degree with additional experience may be accepted.
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in communications, public information, or international relations.
  • Required: Policy application in strategic communications; confidentiality/integrity standards.
  • Desirable: Data visualization, misinformation analysis, digital content creation, and multilingual skills.

Languages

  • Fluency in English (required); French (desirable). Knowledge of other UN official languages is an advantage.
