About OECD
The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is an influential intergovernmental organization founded in 1961 to stimulate economic progress and global trade. Emerging from the post-World War II Marshall Plan’s OEEC, today it brings together 38 developed nations committed to shaping better policies for better lives.
Headquartered in Paris, the OECD serves as a premier forum for governments to collaborate on pressing economic, social, and environmental challenges. It conducts cutting-edge research, develops international standards (like the PISA education rankings and anti-bribery conventions), and provides evidence-based policy recommendations. The organization is particularly known for its work on taxation (including the landmark global minimum corporate tax agreement), sustainable development, and digital economy governance.
While often perceived as a club of wealthy nations, the OECD increasingly engages with developing economies through tailored programs. Its data-driven approach and consensus-building among members make it a unique platform for addressing 21st-century challenges, from climate change to artificial intelligence regulation. Unlike NGOs, the OECD operates through formal government membership and treaty-based cooperation, producing globally recognized benchmarks that influence national policies worldwide.
Why choose us
The OECD stands apart as the world’s premier policy laboratory, where governments collaborate to design evidence-based solutions for today’s most pressing challenges. With six decades of experience bridging research and real-world governance, we offer unmatched expertise in transforming complex economic, social, and environmental issues into actionable frameworks. Our unique value lies in combining rigorous data analysis with direct access to decision-makers across 38 member countries and beyond, enabling us to turn research into global standards like the PISA education assessments and groundbreaking tax agreements.
Unlike academic institutions or advocacy groups, we operate at the intersection of policy and practice, converting multilateral consensus into measurable impact. Governments and institutions choose the OECD because we provide more than analysis – we deliver the tools, networks, and neutral platform needed to implement reforms that drive sustainable growth, fairness, and innovation worldwide. From shaping the digital economy to combating climate change, our work doesn’t just study problems – it solves them through collective action grounded in trusted, impartial expertise.
