Details

Key Duties & Responsibilities

1. GBV Program Implementation

  • Conduct community-based risk assessments to identify GBV threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Design and execute GBV prevention and response initiatives in line with Plan International’s policies and national guidelines.
  • Ensure interventions are age, gender, and diversity-sensitive, prioritizing at-risk groups (women, girls, refugees, etc.).

2. Capacity Building & Advocacy

  • Train community leaders, partners, and frontline workers on GBV prevention, referral pathways, and survivor support.
  • Advocate for gender equality and GBV-sensitive policies with government/NGO stakeholders.
  • Strengthen partnerships with health, legal, and psychosocial service providers for survivor assistance.

3. Monitoring & Reporting

  • Track program impact using GBV case management tools and disaggregated data.
  • Prepare timely reports on trends, gaps, and successes for internal and donor reviews.

4. Safeguarding & Compliance

  • Uphold Plan International’s Child Safeguarding and Gender Equality & Inclusion (GEI) policies.
  • Ensure team adherence to ethical GBV programming standards (confidentiality, non-discrimination).

The Ideal Candidate

Education & Experience

  • Diploma/Degree in Gender Studies, Social Work, Psychology, Law, or related fields.
  • 3+ years of hands-on GBV/SGBV program experience (NGO/humanitarian settings preferred).
  • Deep knowledge of Ethiopia’s GBV legal framework and national response strategies.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong community mobilization, advocacy, and training skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure in high-risk environments (conflict/displacement settings).
  • Fluency in local languages (Gambella region) is an asset.

Safeguarding Commitment

Plan International enforces a zero-tolerance policy toward harm to children and vulnerable groups. The Assistant GBV Officer must:

  • Embed safeguarding and GEI principles in all activities.
  • Report concerns via official channels per the Code of Conduct (CoC).
