Duty Station: Jakarta, Indonesia

Supervisory Arrangement: Direct reporting to UNFPA Indonesia’s Communications Analyst

Organizational Context and Strategic Importance

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), as the lead United Nations agency for sexual and reproductive health and rights, is seeking dynamic and motivated interns to contribute to our transformative agenda. This internship represents a unique opportunity to engage with cutting-edge communications work at the heart of Indonesia’s development landscape.

As we approach the 2030 deadline for the Sustainable Development Goals, UNFPA’s work has never been more critical. Our current Strategic Plan (2022-2025) focuses on three transformative results that will reshape global development: ending preventable maternal deaths, eliminating unmet need for family planning, and eradicating gender-based violence and harmful practices. These ambitious goals require innovative communications strategies and passionate young professionals to help bring them to life.

Detailed Internship Responsibilities

The selected intern will play an integral role in supporting the Communications Unit across multiple workstreams:

1. Digital Communications and Content Development

  • Conceptualize, draft, and edit compelling content for UNFPA Indonesia’s social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn)
  • Assist in developing multimedia assets including infographics, short videos, and photo essays
  • Support website content management, including drafting news articles and feature stories
  • Contribute to translation and localization of materials between English and Bahasa Indonesia

2. Media Relations and Public Engagement

  • Help maintain and update the media contact database
  • Draft press materials including media advisories, press releases, and talking points
  • Monitor media coverage and prepare daily/weekly media briefs
  • Provide logistical support for press conferences and media interviews

3. Event Coordination and Documentation

  • Assist in planning and executing public events, campaigns, and launches
  • Serve as event photographer/videographer when required
  • Prepare post-event reports and impact assessments

4. Knowledge Management and Administrative Support

  • Organize and maintain digital assets including photo and video libraries
  • Prepare presentations for internal and external stakeholders
  • Support the documentation of best practices and success stories

Comprehensive Eligibility Criteria

Academic Requirements:

  • Current enrollment in at least the third year of a first university degree program (Bachelor’s level or equivalent) in communications, journalism, international relations, public health, or related social sciences; OR
  • Recent graduation (within 12 months) from such a degree program

Technical Competencies:

  • Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality written materials in both English and Bahasa Indonesia
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and digital content creation
  • Basic skills in graphic design and/or video editing (experience with Adobe Creative Suite or similar tools is an asset)
  • Understanding of international development issues, particularly related to UNFPA’s mandate
